Last weekend Team RLEI hosted its July Facebook Party. Here’s a recap of the information shared…
Welcome! Today I’m going to quickly share 10 of our best natural, summer survival tips. Whether you’re spending more time at the beach, the lake, or even just the park, chances are you’re trying to deal with all this heat and stay cool. Let’s delve in to it and thanks in advance for following along!
I’m just going to grab an ice cold and big glass of water to gulp down…
TIP #1. You knew water is going to be at the top of this list. The summer heat can cause discomforting symptoms if regular and adequate fluids are not consumed. Water is one of the most important components of our daily diets. Water helps lubricate internal surfaces, flushes toxins through the kidneys, transports nutrients throughout the body, maintains healthy blood pressure, regulates body temperature and sustains healthy vital organs. But is your water the healthiest it can be?
“Get Clean® Water” is a revolutionary new water filtration pitcher system certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA) to reduce up to 99% of lead 1 —as well as dozens of other nasty contaminants that can turn up in your water and may be harmful to your health.
Cleaner, healthier water and a cleaner, healthier planet? We can all drink to that!
This Starter Pack contains all you need to get one full year of healthier, great-tasting water:
- Get Clean® Water Pitcher – Food Safe: BPA-Free; 10 cup capacity
- Get Clean® Water refillable Filter Housing Kit (with 1 filter – 80 gallon capacity)
- Get Clean® Water Filter Refill 3-pack (80 gallon capacity each)
TIP #2. Eat high water content foods. Many fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, cucumber, and tomatoes, contain 90% or higher water content by weight. Eating them in abundance will keep you hydrated. They are good for you any time of the year but especially refreshing in the hottest season.
TIP #3. When hydrating in the summer heat, water is your best option, but sports beverages may be needed through strenuous exercise and excessive fluid and electrolyte losses through sweat. Choose beverages with lower calorie content and lower added sugar.
Shaklee “Performance” is clinically proven to hydrate better than water. In fact, it has more electrolytes and provides more energy than the leading hydration drink. The proprietary OPTI-LYTE™ electrolyte blend plus the unique mix of carbohydrates delivers instant and sustained energy and supports optimal hydration.
TIP #4. Where is your caffeine for that exercise energy boost you want coming from? It’s common to load up on lots of coffee, especially in the morning and especially if you want to do a workout early in the day (when it’s coolest) and are still tired. But side effects of over-doing it include diarrhea, dizziness, nervousness, fast heartbeat and insomnia. Going totally overboard can even cause dehydration, body tremors, and unusual weakness. And the sugar and chemical content of most commercial “energy drinks” has extra negative side effects.
Each Shaklee “Energy Chew” delivers a scientific blend of caffeine from natural green tea extract, plus L-tyrosine, L-theanine, B vitamins, and vitamin D. And there are no artificial flavors, sweeteners or added preservatives you’ll find in other energy products. It’s a clean burst of healthy energy that sustains energy and improves performance and helps you stay alert and sharpens focus.
(Note: Non-VEG product.)
TIP #5. If you’re going to get active, then get your joints and muscles in good shape.
Shaklee’s “Advanced Joint Health Complex” contains a patent-pending, fast-acting form of boswellia extract shown to improve joint comfort in as few as 5 days. It also contains concentrated forms of glucosamine that promote mobility, enhance flexibility, and improve joint function.
“Pain Relief Complex” features a patented blend of clinically tested boswellia along with safflower extract, which provides help for overworked joints. This is ideal for those whose work puts stress on joints and who don’t work out regularly. Key ingredients help relieve discomfort from overexertion and promote flexibility and comfortable movement.
“Joint & Muscle Pain Cream” provides temporary relief in minutes. Deeply penetrating to target arthritis pain, backaches, sore muscle, sports injuries and more. This non-greasy, menthol formula enables fast absorption and provides prolonged release action to affected areas. So effective and convenient to use – keep one for the medicine cabinet, purse, and gym bag.
TIP #6. Exfoliating is your friend. Use products combining naturally occurring fruit acids or enzymes. As soon as the more receptive cells are exposed to these ingredients, there will be better absorption of topical antioxidants and humectants, which in turn will plump the skin’s liquid reserve to prevent future dehydration.
And dry brushing before your bath or shower will not only remove all skin debris, but it will also stimulate circulation and help flush toxins through the lymphatic system. Keep the bath or shower short and use lukewarm water.
TIP #7. Tanning is overrated. There’s no such thing as a “base” tan, and getting one will certainly not protect you from the sun’s UV rays. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 90% of melanomas, the most deadly form of skin cancer, are caused by exposure to UV light radiation, which comes from the sun, tanning beds, and sunlamps.
TIP #8. Don’t skimp on what you wear. A hat with good coverage is obvious, but also wear loose cotton clothing. And don’t forget about keeping your eyes in good health during an active summer. For summer safety, wear sunglasses that protect not only the lens, cornea, and other parts of your eye, but the eyelid and surrounding skin. Check out these options…
TIP #9. Here’s a way to stay cool you might not have heard of yet….grab an old sock, stuff it full of rice and put it into the freezer for a few hours. Stay cool at night by placing it under the covers with you. Rice retains the cold for long periods of time.
TIP #10. Let in your surroundings, but be prepared. Plan a fun trip if you’re able and motivated for a day or longer — hiking in the wild, camping, playing at the river, or a few days resting at the ocean. Rekindling our Earth connection has benefits that last beyond this season, When traveling, take activities for the family and your first aid kit for bites, bee stings, and injuries. Check for ticks after your hikes. Watch for overexposure, take time in the shade, and drink your water. And above all, enjoy the summer break!
