FALL Into Line Experience

Last month Team RLEI hosted its October Facebook Party. Here’s a recap of the information shared…

Welcome! Today I’m going to quickly share 10 of our best natural, fall survival tips. They aren’t completely sure why, but more babies are born in autumn in the United States than other times of the year. And many families spend their chilly fall days just trying to prevent their kids from catching a cold or flu virus and bringing it back home to the whole family. So let’s talk shop about keeping your children healthy and thanks in advance for following along!

I’m just going to grab a pumpkin spice flavored smoothie to get in the mood…

TIP #1. Don’t gimme the sugar, baby. One of the reasons we all tend to get sicker between Halloween and Christmas? All the sugary candy and other treats. Excess sugar lowers our immunity. Here’s a fun fact: sugar inhibits phagocytosis, the process by which viruses and bacteria are engulfed and then literally chewed up by white blood cells. So limit the amount of sugar in your diet as much as possible during the whole holiday season and you won’t get tricked into being sick because of it.

TIP #2. Z is for Zinc. Zinc is a foundational mineral and one of the most common deficiencies in the world.  Zinc is essential to human and animal growth patterns and has an essential role in the development of hormones and immune molecules.  Zinc is one of the best mineral supplements to boost and balance out a tired and over stimulated immune system. When we have poor blood sugar signaling due to a diet that is high in sugar and carbohydrates we are unable to adequately absorb zinc.b20411

Zinc is critical for balancing the immune system and keeping the Th-1 and Th-2 systems in check.  Zinc potentiates the action of the human cytokine interferon alpha, a protein that inhibits viral replication.  This reduces immunological stress and improves the immune coordination.

Shaklee’s “Zinc Complex” helps maintain normal immune function.

TIP #3. There’s Vitamin Sea (good for the soul) and then there’s Vitamin C (good for pretty much everything in the body).

b20096Your body is capable of many things, but it can’t make vitamin C. Shaklee’s “Vita-C” formula has been shown to supports immune health and help maintain natural antioxidant defenses and cell integrity. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps support the immune system and protect against damaging free radicals. Chew them up or suck on them (to ease a sore throat) if there’s anyone in your home who doesn’t like to swallow tablets.

TIP #4. So you have picky vitamin takers in your household? You’re not alone in the struggle. Here’s some parental tactics to help you help your wee ones:

  1. Use a powder multi-vitamin that dissolves in fresh juices. You can sneak it in super healthy combos of greens and berries.
  2. Use a blender to break up tablets as part of yummy smoothies. Fruits, veggies, protein powders, and plant based milks will all disguise the extra nutritional goodness.
  3. Or hide the taste of any vitamins by mixing them into applesauce or oatmeal. Try to make it just a regular part of the routine in their diet.
  4. Set up a supportive structure and reward system, which is better than having to bribe them to do it.

Shaklee’s “CitriBoost” is an easy to use powder that contains 100% of the Daily Value of vitamins A, C, D, and E plus all eight B vitamins.

TIP #7. Slow down your teens living in the eating fast lane. With their on-the-go lives, kids don’t always have time for a sit-down meal. That’s why they need fast food options that are also good for them — choices like low-fat, low-glycemic Shaklee “Meal Shakes”. These great-tasting, easy-to-mix drinks pack extra nutrition into any meal or snack. They provide 19 essential vitamins and minerals, and they’re a rich source of calcium and an excellent source of protein — the fundamental nutrients that growing kids and teens need to stay strong and healthy. TIP #8. On the topic of snacking…make some healthier alternatives for the holidays. It’s good to get your little ones in the habit of eating more veggies and fruits year round, but you can make it extra fun during all the festivities. Check out some of these suggestions…

TIP #9. Breastmilk is best for babies but they also need protection on the outside to stay healthy on the inside. The outer layer of baby skin is a lot thinner, and it absorbs more water than adult skin. Infant and toddler skin also has less of the brown pigment melanin, which helps protect the skin from ultraviolet light. As children become older, their skin becomes thicker and more pigmented, granting them more sun protection. Skin represents both an important physical barrier to absorption of toxic substances and simultaneously a significant portal of entry of such substances. So make sure what goes on baby’s skin is natural, safe, and gentle.
