Spring Into Action Experience

Last weekend Team RLEI hosted its April Facebook Party. Here’s a recap of the information shared…

Welcome! Today I’m going to quickly share 10 of our best natural, spring survival tips. The birds are singing, the sun is shining more again, the weather is getting warmer, BUT the pollen is also kicking-up, we’re doing some deep cleaning that disturbs the air quality, and allergies are getting the best of some people. Let’s fix that and thanks in advance for following along!

I’m just going to grab my iced cup of pomegranate green matcha Energizing Tea with lime, the perfect beverage for a spring afternoon…

TIP #1. Go to the root. Alfalfa is an especially nutritious plant that’s commonly used as a medicinal herb. Alfalfa sprouts, seeds and leaves contain various nutrients that may display some beneficial properties. Relief from hay fever and other allergic symptoms is a reputed benefit of consuming alfalfa. It acts like an antihistamine and stimulates the immune system. Some people take alfalfa products to combat common allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, sinus congestion, runny nose and difficulty breathing.

alfalfaIt’s a storehouse of nutrients, and the tap root reaches down as deep as 20 feet searching out nutrients and minerals from deposits in the soil, while its leaves gather large amounts of chlorophyll through the natural process of photosynthesis. “Alfalfa Complex” is a Shaklee Signature Formula originally developed by Dr. Shaklee.

TIP #2. Studies show that essential fatty acids coming from organic flax seed or hemp seed oil can help reduce seasonal allergies. Try avoiding mucous and congestion-causing foods such as dairy products, milk, processed wheat and sugar.

In general, a healthy diet will boost your overall immunity to allergies. Go for antioxidant-rich diets like grapes, tomatoes, oranges, nuts and apples, all foods known to support normal upper respiratory tract health. Nasal allergies are almost non-existent in the region where people eat a Mediterranean diet.

TIP #3. Eliminate allergy-causing pollen and mites from the air by investing in an air purification system that has UV and negative ion filter. Carpet harbors pet dander, dust and pollen from the outdoors, which can exacerbate allergy symptoms.

If possible, replace carpet with non-toxic wool, non-toxic hardwood or cork flooring. Also, get rid of the clutter which collects allergens.

TIP #4. Salt lamps are natural ionizers; they purify the air in a room by charging the room with heavily negative ions. (Negative ions assist in improving overall health, and they are said to rid the air from dust, bacteria, allergens, smoke and other baneful particles.) This process is purification is the same as houseplants, rain and sea air. The salt derives from the dried ocean beds from Poland, Iran and the Himalayas.

Crystal salt is pure and unrefined containing large amounts of trace minerals. The crystals are typically red, orange or pink in color. Lamps are either crystals in a cut or polished form, or in a rough and natural state. Each piece of crystal is indented and fitted with a candle holder or a bulb.product_image_113_10_15_13_3_55

Placing the lamps near your workstation or your computer, assists in reducing electromagnetic field (EMF) effects emitted electronic devices such as computer monitors. The energy emitted from EMF’s is associated with increased tiredness and a lack of concentration. It is also linked to headaches, depression and a weak immune system.

One of the many benefits is to place a lamp in an area of the home such as a family room or passageway, since they produce tranquil and calming effects. Salt Lamps are also beneficial in a therapeutic environment such as a massage room as they are said to help with relaxation. You can also use a salt lamp for meditation, as they assist in taking the mind into a deeper and more tranquil state.

TIP #5. Chemicals and fumes from most store-bought cleaning products have been shown to trigger allergic reactions, especially in the spring when our allergic response is already heightened. Instead, opt for natural, organic cleaning products. They are a safe alternative to more traditional cleansers that contain many chemicals that can be toxic to your health. And if you take it a step further and use super-concentrated, biodegradable cleaners you are doing the planet a favor, as well as your wallet.

Shaklee’s “Get Clean” line of cleaning products for the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room have no harmful fumes or hazardous chemicals. It outperforms 20 national leading brands. TIP #6. Go organic with your bedding. Dr. James R. Haltom from the Mississippi Allergy and Asthma Clinic has stated that the best thing you can do for allergies is to purchase a high-quality, allergy-free cover for the mattress, box springs and pillows. And organic cotton is not treated with common agricultural irritants. Also, wash your bedding once a week in very hot water to prevent build-up and help kill off dust mites. Check out this company that makes organic bedding options…

TIP #7. On the topic of respiratory health…vitamins play a vital role in sustaining a healthy respiratory system and reducing your risk of diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, bronchitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia and asthma. Chronic lower respiratory diseases are the fourth leading cause of death in the United States.

Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that stimulates DNA production and cell reproduction. A folate deficiency can lead to an increase in risk of respiratory diseases and infections. Research by scientists at the University of Bergen in Norway and published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” in July 2007 found that folate deficiency in young children is an independent risk factor for lower respiratory tract infections. The scientists also discovered that children who are breastfed have a lower risk of folate deficiency and respiratory tract infections.bcomplex

Dietary folate isn’t easily absorbed, so Shaklee developed a unique folic acid coating that makes the nutrient more accessible to promote absorption. This patented technology is a Shaklee exclusive in its “B-Complex” formula.

So while you’re cleaning out your medicine cabinet, toss out that tube of mascara, that concealer container, and any other makeup you’ve had so long you can’t remember when you bought it. This way, you’ll be able to minimize your risk of eye infections or bacteria-induced breakouts.

TIP #9. Put on a fresh face with a healthier skin regimen, like Shaklee’s cruelty-free line, “Enfuselle”.

One simple regimen with all the essential antioxidants and nutrients your skin craves. Each step is formulated to do its part to nourish your skin. But it’s the steps combined that will give you skin so radiant, you won’t believe your mirror.

In 28 short days, and just three minutes of Enfuselle Nutrition Therapy morning and night, you’ll notice your skin looking younger – guaranteed. Clinical studies confirmed:
• 665% increase in skin firmness

TIP #10. Get in the garden. Not only does it make your landscaping pretty, but gardening also burns approximately 250 to 350 calories an hour. For optimal health benefits, garden three times a week for an hour at a time. Anything that makes you sweat qualifies as exercise. Rotate tasks every 20 minutes or so to give all your major muscle groups a workout and to avoid overstraining one set of muscles.

And plant more trees in a native garden to benefit the environment and all of nature’s inhabitants, which puts more oxygen in the air and uses less water to maintain.
